Quite Write: Writing Night!
Details
[NOTE: Fee is waived for your first Quite Write meeting!]
Tuesday nights are the best! We'll do brief intros and goals from 6:30 to 7:00. We really need this warmup period---both for those of us who know each other and for the new folks who show up---so please arrive by 6:30 if at all possible. Then we can comfortably begin writing at the stroke of 7:00 and continue undisturbed until 8:30, or longer for the masochists among us. (That said, in the real world there's traffic, train delays, bad weather, and so on, so if you arrive late, it's okay, come on in!)
This time and space is set aside to do actual writing. Bring whatever you write with: there is power for laptops, and some of us use pen and paper. Your choice. And, although we are not a discussion group, there are many areas where people can go if they want to chat without being disruptive. Vending machines, water fountains, bathrooms, nice tables to sit at . . . really, what more do you need? Just show up, already! Bonus: There is no Internet access, so you can omit a huge distraction without even trying.
You'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish with one manageable commitment like this. Here's a personal snapshot from the first organizer of Quite Write, Sharon: "Much to my surprise, I discovered that after coming regularly for a while I was able to write even on the most brain-dead of nights. No matter how much I hated the thought of schlepping out at the end of a long day, trying to be creative no less, the habit took over and writing just happened, usually downright effortlessly. And now, a year later, I almost never have to drag myself, I really can't wait to go write on Tuesdays."
