London Loop and Lavender Field Walk

Details

• easy walk through the delightful countryside of Surrey. The route follows sections 5 and 6 of the London Loop and features colourful lavender fields, ancient grazing commons and a variety of downland, meadows and parklands. We will visit the Saxon Chaldon church with its famous wall painting, as well as Kenley aerodrome with RAF monument and observatory.
The commons of Coulsdon, Kenley and Farthing Downs, grazed by cattle, are preserved as part of the green belt and are rich with wild flowers. Happy Valley is notable for its rare yellow rattle plants. The lavender fields are a stunning sea of purple in summer; we can walk through the fields and try the famous lavender ice cream at the café. There are great views of the London skyline from the long ridge walk. Two climbs on route, otherwise level terrain
We aim to have picnic stop at viewpoint. Plus cafes and pubs on route. As area is well served by rail routes, option to take earlier trains back. We are likely to finish walk late afternoon. A good knowledge of English history is required for this event, £3 meet up fee on the day.
