Our theme this month is Spring has Sprung! We will be doing a little planting in a pot to take home with you.
We have had some requests for gluten and dairy free. While those menus typically cost more and are specialized, we are offering it this time as a trial to see if it is of interest.
Here is our special menu- Roasted root vegetable coconut curry (mildly spiced), rice, fruit and a specialty non-alcoholic drink called "Afternoon Delight". The entire menu is vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free.
As part of our fundraising efforts, we will have a drawing for some cool prizes. Tickets will only be $1 each!
It has come to our attention that there has been some misinformation going around regarding the donations. Here is the correct information: We receive NO funds from Gala (as they are recovering and restructuring) or anywhere else. In the future, we will possibly be seeking grants and doing some fundraising to help defray costs. The ENTIRE costs thus far are currently being carried solely by the generosity of John Boling. We have not raised even close to enough funds to cover anything yet and are in fact hundreds of dollars in the negative. John has agreed to cover a few more luncheons but had really hoped that people would be interested enough to pitch in and keep it going.
We collect donations only to reimburse his costs. NO monies go to Gala; they only go towards the actual event costs. John spends money on the decorations, food, and reimbursing Amberlyn.
As we all know, food costs and other things are very expensive, and it will be difficult to keep going if we do not start receiving. We have a suggested donation of $20 because some people cannot afford that and others can. If you consider what you are getting for your donation, it is quite a bit. Where else can you eat a full meal with drinks and dessert for $20? Please consider this and whether you want to keep our Senior Social alive.
Some people have suggested potlucks or other options, but the whole point of having a senior social is to address issues that seniors face. Amongst those issues is having the energy, the trouble to go shopping, preparing, cooking and carrying. We believe it is far more convenient to show up and donate. Amberlyn is also an experienced professional caterer with a health card and is cognizant of health and safety issues.
Another vital portion of the intention of the Senior Social is to address other topics in upcoming socials such as youth coming in to assist with phone and computer troubleshooting, grief discussions, games etc. We want to offer a nutritious meal, helpful resources and socialization to prevent isolation and fun! (We will send out the upcoming menus and topics soon!)
