Based on the life of G. W. Pabst, the Austrian director who was one of the most influential film makers during the Weimer Republic, the Director explores the way that series of compromises eat away at integrity. Pabst left for Hollywood in the 1930s, but finding no success there, ended up returning to Germany and working under the Nazi Government. This historical novel explores his life and the film industry under the Nazis and asks the question when does compromise turn into capitulation.
