Announcing a new Meetup for The Raleigh Ski and Outing Club!

What: Wild Turkey paddle on the Blackwater River

The River: Down-East Blackwater River ? The northeast Cape Fear River is our goal by rotation; but the South, the Lumber, and Holly Shelter Creek will be kept in consideration. This is the time of year to find mistletoe hanging from branches above your head! Total paddling distance range is estimated 6-10 miles. This trip is also open to Carolina Canoe Club members. Final arrangements by November 9.

Skill Level: Whitewater canoeing skills are not required! It?s flat water. Participants, please have some experience paddling a river in your craft of choice (rafting doesn?t count.) (Please note that Raleigh has several places where you can go do this.)
Food: You should bring your lunch and snacks for the day. Don?t forget to bring water. We recommend two quarts per person.

Equipment: You bring the boat (canoe, kayak, or sea kayal), partner, paddles and life preserver. If you?ll be strapped in, bring a helmet.) REI in Cary rents boat as well as Paddle Creek at Falls Dam.

Meeting Location: Tentative: Meet at the REST STOP on I-40, 24 miles (30 minutes) southeast of the Raleigh Beltline at TDB (8-9 a.m. region). It is two miles before the Benson exit and before I-95, when going east. We are gathering on the east bound side. Driver4 time to the river can be two hours.
Start time: 8-9 a.m. (check with Coordinator)
End time: Rarely before dark
Event fee: Zip. Those without a boat will need to rent at their own cost.
