Event Details:
Do you like citizen science projects?! Come help us map the litter on the roads in Raleigh :) The Great Raleigh Cleanup is partnering with NC State University professor Dr. Barbara Doll on an exciting project to evaluate litter levels in Raleigh. By assigning litter scores to roads in the area, we aim to identify and document litter hotspots, creating a foundation for meaningful cleanup and prevention efforts. Later this year, we will organize a large-scale cleanup to remove litter from the city and implement educational programs and behavior-change initiatives to reduce future littering.

Volunteer Roles:

  • Drivers - drive the assigned roads
  • Data Collectors - document litter scores of the assigned roads and mark them on the map provided

Logistics:
Volunteers will meet at Weaver Street Labs pavilion, collect their supplies, and go through a short training on how to complete the mapping exercise. Folks will be paired up (one driver, one data collector) and sent to record litter scores of their assigned roads. We will all meet back at the Weaver Street Labs to collect supplies and debrief.

3, 2- hour shifts available: 9-11am,10-12pm, 11am-1pm

Community partners working on this broader project will have tables set up to talk more about different parts of the project!
