Trash Trap Tour

Details
Do you know what a trash trap is?! Come take a tour and pick up trash out of the stream!
In October of 2024, two trash traps were introduced to the Marsh Creek Watershed through a partnership with Sound Rivers’ Litter-Free Rivers program, Raleigh Stormwater, and The Great Raleigh Cleanup. These traps capture litter floating in the streams, helping to protect local waterways. The Great Raleigh Cleanup monitors and maintains the traps to ensure their effectiveness in reducing pollution.
And beginning in 2025, in partnership with NC State University, we launched litter surveys of streets and parking lots in the Marsh Creek watershed. This research will help us better understand the sources and patterns of land-based litter, allowing us to take more strategic action to prevent marine debris and reduce pollution flowing into our waterways.
