Lancashire Witches Walk part 1. 19 miles, Elevation 2328 ft
This is a tough hike due to distance and elevation.
Please ensure that you have suitable gear and fitness.
We have split this long distance hike into multiple parts.
Meet at Burnley bus station at 8:35am. Hike ends in Clitheroe. There are buses back to Burnley from Clitheroe.
The hike starts in Barrowford. However we recommend that everyone, including drivers meet in Burnley bus station and get the bus to the start point together. This is because the hike will end in Clitheroe, which has a bus service back to Burnley. There are also trains from the end point to Blackburn and beyond.
Walk the route that those accused of being witches in the famous Pendle Witch Trials are thought to have taken to stand trial.
The Lancashire Witches Walk is a 51-mile (82 km) long-distance footpath opened in 2012, between Barrowford and Lancaster, all in Lancashire. It starts at Pendle Heritage Centre in Barrowford before passing through the Forest of Pendle, the town of Clitheroe and the Forest of Bowland to finish at Lancaster Castle.
The route was created to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the trials of the Pendle witches. Ten cast iron waymarkers, designed by Stephen Raw, each inscribed with a verse of a poem have been installed at sites along the way.
This walk takes us from the beautiful town of Barrowford, beneath the shadow of Pendle Hill and on to Clitheroe, taking in hills, woodland, farmland and some of Pendle's cutest villages.
Please note that this is a long walk! Although following mostly good paths, please don't attempt this if you're not relatively certain you can walk 20 miles.
There is a voluntary donation per walk to help pay for Meetup and other group fees - recommended amount £1.
