Gutted Haddie for Christmas
Details
Introduction:
A climb up the famous Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park can include this very short and easy scramble near the top known as the Gutted Haddie. Great fun it is – especially if we conclude with a few Christmas refreshments.
Route:
Starting from the new parliament building we go up the Radical Road, summit the hill and head down to the Sheep Heid Inn in Duddingston. If they let us in for a beer, good and well. If not, we’ll continue the walk back via the dismantled railway to Holyrood Park and back to the start. From there on it will be general merry making and perhaps Christmas shopping at Waverley market.
Suitability:
Suitable for any reasonably fit, able-bodied person. We will hike at a moderate pace. We may drink at a moderate pace too. However, you are responsible for deciding if this walk is suitable for you, coming adequately prepared and looking after yourself on the walk.
Eligibility.
This event is open to any member of the Ramblers and Scramblers meet-up group. You may bring one guest. Dogs? – remember some pubs may not like that!
Statistics:
Distance: 5km
Total ascent: 280m
Time: 3 hours
Clothing & Equipment:
You must ensure that you come adequately prepared for this walk. A recommended gear list can be found on the MCofS website. Come properly equipped to cope with December weather. Kudos if you manage to Christmas theme your hiking gear! This is more of a social than a hike so bring cash and a shopping bag!
Meet up Location/ Time:
The Scottish Parliament Building, Edinburgh. Saturday 11 December 2021 at 12:30pm. Please be at the start point on time.
Event Vulnerability:
The only possible problem would be new Covid restrictions. Otherwise, we go ahead no matter the weather.
And finally:
Please note well: This walk is not guided in any sense. My role in this event is simply to facilitate the group getting together at the start point.
