See all- 2025 Read Harder Challenge - Monthly Meet UpNeeds location
Let's wrap up another month of the Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge. We're halfway through the challenge! The Read Harder Challenge is a list of 24 different (usually genre based) challenges. Each month, I'll pick two challenges and ask attendees complete at least ONE of the challenges prior to the event. Some attendees may complete both (which is great!) but I know that's not realistic for everyone.
For June, the two challenges to choose from are:
a) Read a staff pick from an indie bookstore (Preferably, from your local indie bookstore)
b) Read a nonfiction book about nature or the environment. If you really want a challenge, Book Riot adds a bonus task: complete all tasks with LGBTQ+ and/or BIPOC books.
For more information about the challenge, a downloadable tracking sheet, suggestions and general fun, please check out their website at: https://bookriot.com/read-harder-2025/
Please note: Rising Tide is a distillery. They serve food with a rotating menu; available online. They have small plates, entrees and non-alcoholic based beverages. Please check out their website for more info: https://risingtidebrewing.com/
Everyone is responsible for their own person and purchase of food/drink.
- Sunny War at Vinegar Hill Music Theatrevinegar hill music theater, Arundel, ME
I have been wanting to visit Vinegar Hill because I have heard good things. There is plenty of room left so I hope to see old friends and new ones.
Vinegar Hill notes on their web site that all shows take place inside our historic and intimate barn, which is fully equipped with comfortable (and removable) theater seating, state-of-the-art sound, warm accent lighting, and indoor and outdoor bars with local offerings. Come check out the space and support an independently-owned & -operated small music venue!
I have already picked a few shows that I would like to see.
I had never heard of Sunny War but after looking her up and listening to her music, I would like to see her live. Please listen to the video on the Vinegar Hill page or YouTube.
We can meet at 7:00 as the doors are opening. I will post where I am meeting people. I am in seat G1 which is $25 plus a fee. Please purchase your tickets here. https://vinhillmusic.com/performance/sunny-war/ - Sunset Sea Kayak TourPortland Paddle, Portland, ME
## Glide across Portland’s Casco Bay as the sun begins to set!
The hour just before sunset is one of the best times to paddle Casco Bay; the sky tends to explode with color and the seas often become glassy and calm. This trip involves a leisurely paddle along the edge of Portland Harbor and near the inner islands of Casco Bay – offering the chance to enjoy a panoramic view of the sun setting over the city as we paddle back to the East End Beach.
This two-hour tour is designed for paddlers of all experience levels — including first-time kayakers.
These tours are already booked for some of the weekends in July so I have no doubt that it will fill quickly. Book in advance ($55/person) at: https://www.portlandpaddle.net/tours/sunset-sea-kayak-tour/
You'll be assigned to a 2-person kayak unless you contact them ahead of time and request solo kayaks. This is a public tour so expect participants outside of our group.
