Hack-a-book club

Details

Every other Saturday we are holding a book club where we get together to discuss and work through classic CompSci texts. The pressure is intentionally held low and the feeling casual, because everyone has enough to worry about as is.

If you miss a day or couldn't finish something in time, no worries, you will be brought up to speed first. We start at 14:00 and go on to roughly 6-ish, a little later if there is food involved. All skill levels are welcome, but some basic programming knowledge is advised. If the whole book seems too daunting, you are free to pop by anyway to see if taking on the task with a supportive group makes a difference. Just saying hi is also fine, we're a pretty chill bunch. Non-members are expected to donate a little to help keep the lights on, but if money is tight don't worry about it. A tenner for the length of the book is more than enough.

We are currently doing chapter 1 of the classic K&R C book (2nd edition) and comparing the practices of that time with contemporary C (C23). Our focus will be on security mostly. We will be using Modern C by Jens Gustedt as our source for up-to-date habits and methods [https://gustedt.gitlabpages.inria.fr/modern-c/].
