October meeting

Details
Hello all.
I've pleased to announce that a time and location have been arranged for an October meeting of The Rationalist Review. The only physical requirement of the reserved conference room is that they -the public library- don't allow drinks in the conference room that I've reserved. Not knowing the level of participation, I've set meeting for an hour and half in length. Do not let the number limits online here stop you from attending if you wish. But you must follow the rules of the Cherry Hills Library as well as our own too please. I regret that at this time I cannot offer any online meeting services. That maybe able to change in the future with enough -technical- support.
For our first meeting I wanted to climb at least some of the mountain that is Plato's dialogues so I'm going to be putting on a bunch of links here to listen to/watch in your spare time to help put the ideas into historical context first, followed by the developments -scientifically & culturally- that set the stage for Plato to make his philosophical entrance, and finally the real meat & potatoes is the last section which has 4 links concerning Book I of Plato's The Republic. I will never post so many links again for any future meeting -I promise- but as I always like to learn the context of the earlier thinkers so I will give all of you the same opportunity:
Pre-socratic Greek Physics and Early Greek Cultural Background BEFORE Plato’s Republic:
Early Natural Science Development

Early Greek Cultural Archetype Development - https://youtu.be/n1HXOww4RPg?si=VZJknXuXbqpBt-3Y (assumes people know The story of The Iliad and The Odyssey, Sugrue does confuse the names of Achilles & Odysseus for a while at one point in his talk but bear with him)
Feel free to review any of the old movies or video recaps on The Trojan War (The Iliad) and the Odyssey as refreshers on those stories if you need. (You-tube has a bunch and classic movies/TV shows covering both are on certain streaming services)
Early Scientific rationalization and the Greek sophists arrival - https://youtu.be/GI3ZcEbvTO0?si=EC_k7bgADpwIiVhO (does repeat earlier points but gets to where the Sophists enter the Greek social system)
The early (and modern) need for evolution of systems of Justice:

The idea of Vendetta Based Law vs the development of a Civil Organized Justice Process

A longer reflection on The Oresteia and its message on Justice by Sugrue:

Plato’s The Republic Videos Links (the actual topic finally!)

Again I apologize for posting so much, it wont happen again. My goal is to post only 1 or 2 active links for meets in the future, but at the very least come to the meeting having listened through a bit of Book 1 videos on the Republic so that we can focus there. The extra context stuff is exactly that. Its primarily for the fascination of the history and science nerds among us. I hope you enjoy and look forwards to seeing you all Oct 22.
-Marcus
