May Meeting

Details

Hello all.
The May meeting of The Rationalist Review can now be announced. As before we will be using a study room in the Cherry Hills Public library. The study rooms are well inside the library on the Eastern side. Look for a sign or just a bunch of us siting together.

Questions: from the Plato's Phaedo

(can skip to time 25:20 to get right into it)
In regards to one of Socrates last and seemingly irrational comments before Death:
Presuming some form of afterlife: either spiritual or metaphysical (take your pick): Is participation in Philosophy actually practice in preparation for death? (the eventual separation/isolation of the psyche/mind/soul from the bodily demands and experiences of life)?

If Socrates were to be considered correct on this account, then does life serve only as an opportunity to experience the additional irrational sensations of itself (the process of Life) before the psyche is disentangled/separated from it?

And If so does this lend more weight to the ethics of Epicurean philosophies than those of the Stoic philosophies as inheritors of the Socratic schools of thought?

Do not let the number limits online here stop you from attending if you wish.
I look forward to seeing all attending and hearing your thoughts.
-Kindly
Marcus
