Hello fall hikers,
I apologize for not having many summer hikes. Between the heat and the tics, I thought it best to wait for fall.
This hike has the usual suspects, exposed roots, rocks, ruts. uneven surfaces, short tree stumps, wet spots, up and down slopes. Leaves and pine needles on the trail can be slippery, especially on slopes. UFOs are not expected, but this is Exeter, the UFO capital of New England.
It is an easy hike. That doesn't mean the whole hike is easy, but nothing too strenuous.
There are some boulders along the trail. We will be under forest canopy most of the time. Keep in mind the canopy is thinning as fall progresses.
We will do the red loop, which is 5.1 miles. Walking 2.5 mph and taking 1 or 2 short breaks, we should be done within 2.5 hours.
The entrance is off Newfields road. It's very close to the route 101 exit 10. It's on the north side of 101, or the Newfields side of 101.
The parking lot is not very big. I suggest car pool if possible. I suggest wearing an orange hat or coat.
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Be prepared for rain. Bring water, a snack, allergy meds if you are allergic to stings.
