Welcome to the RDU Adults & Autism Meetup Group on Meetup.com! This group is for individuals in the Raleigh-Durham area who are on the Autism spectrum, along with friends, family, and allies seeking to connect and socialize with others who share similar interests. Whether it's discussing autism-related topics, engaging in activities, or simply building a support network, our welcoming and inclusive community provides a safe space to meet like-minded individuals. Join us to make new connections, share experiences, and embrace the unique talents and perspectives of our diverse group of amazing individuals!
Everyone supporting the autistic community is welcome to join however you will not be able to attend Zoom meetups without verification by a current member or facilitator OR by attending one of our IN PERSON local meetup events. Please contact the group facilitator directly about verification.
Community Guidelines –
1. Respect & Inclusivity
• Treat all members with kindness and respect.
• No discrimination based on neurotype, gender, race, religion, sexuality, or other personal attributes.
• Be mindful that everyone communicates differently—assume good intentions and ask for clarification when needed.
2. Clear & Considerate Communication
• Use direct and clear language when possible.
• Avoid sarcasm, vague wording, or excessive metaphors that might be misunderstood.
• If someone asks for clarification, respond patiently.
3. No Harassment, Bullying, or Hate Speech
• No personal attacks, name-calling, or harassment of any kind.
• No hate speech, slurs (even if self-referential), or threats.
• Respect people’s boundaries and personal space during in-person events.
4. Privacy & Safety
• Do not share another member’s personal information without consent.
• If attending in-person events, avoid taking or sharing photos of others without permission.
• If you feel uncomfortable or encounter a rule violation, notify the organizer or host.
5. Age Restriction (18+)
• This group is for adults aged 18 and older.
• Minors (under 18) are not permitted to attend events or participate in discussions.
• If age verification is required for certain events (e.g., bars, 21+ venues), members must provide valid ID.
6. Event Etiquette
• RSVP honestly and update your status if you can no longer attend.
• Arrive on time whenever possible and follow event guidelines.
• Respect the event location, whether it’s a public venue or someone’s private space.
7. No Sexually Suggestive or Explicit Content
• No NSFW (Not Safe For Work) topics, images, or discussions during events or in group chats.
• No sexually suggestive jokes, gestures, or comments.
• No inappropriate behavior, flirting, or advances toward other members without mutual consent.
8. No Harmful or Distressing Content
• No discussions that glorify self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, or violence.
• Mental health discussions are allowed but must remain supportive and constructive.
• If discussing sensitive topics, be mindful of others’ comfort levels and use content warnings.
9. No Misinformation or Unverified Advice
• Do not provide medical, legal, or financial advice unless you are a qualified professional.
• If discussing health or science topics, ensure information is from credible sources.
10. No Unsolicited Promotion or Sales
• No advertising, fundraising, or recruitment for external groups without organizer approval.
• Self-promotion (e.g., personal projects, businesses) is allowed only in designated spaces or with prior approval.
11. Refund Policies for Paid Events
• Refund requests must be made at least 24 hours before the event.
• Refunds will only be granted if the cancellation deadline is met, except in special circumstances at the discretion of the organizer.
• If the event is canceled by the organizer, full refunds will be issued.
• Processing fees (if applicable) may be deducted from refunds.
12. Guest Rules
• Guests are welcome only if explicitly allowed in the event description.
• Members are responsible for ensuring their guests follow all community rules.
• If an event has limited capacity, priority will be given to registered members.
• Some events may be member-only—please check before bringing a guest.
13. Liability Waiver
• By participating in any Meetup event, you acknowledge that you are responsible for your own safety and well-being.
• The organizers, hosts, and group members are not liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages that occur during an event.
• If the event involves physical activity (e.g., hiking, sports, dancing) or takes place in a public venue, you agree to assess your own abilities and participate at your own risk.
• If you have medical conditions or accessibility needs, please inform the organizer beforehand to ensure proper accommodations.
• In case of emergency, attendees are encouraged to call 911 or local emergency services as needed.
14. Host & Organizer Decisions
• Respect the decisions of the group organizer(s) and event hosts.
• If you disagree with a decision, communicate respectfully through the appropriate channels.
• Repeated rule violations may result in removal from the group.
Final Notes
• If you have accessibility needs or sensory concerns, let the organizer know so accommodations can be made.
