//The Workshop
We know many of you are looking to learn React Native and we had an amazing turnout at our first intro workshop in November!
Without any prior knowledge of React Native, by the end of the Workshop you'll have built a basic functioning React Native app.
The workshop is designed for developers with React experience as we won't have time to cover the basics of React.
For this workshop, you'll work in groups to build a React Native app and the Github project will have multiple branches, each representing a checkpoint in case you get stuck.
We will have one instructor leading the class and 3-5 mentors in the room to help you as you build the app!
You'll learn how to:
- Create a React Native project
- Make API calls
- Navigate between screens
- Basic swiping gestures
- How to install React Native Packages
//Your Instructor
Edward Apostol -- Senior Instructor @ University of Toronto & Director of Technology Services @ Resources -- will be leading the workshop.
He not only has a wealth of React Native experience & knowledge but is also a fantastic teacher so we're lucky to have him!
//What will you build?
We'll be building a music player that will access the Spotify API so you can play Spotify songs on your own app that you created! We'll have some really cool features and it will essentially be a skin that you'll be able to use afterwards if you prefer it to the Spotify app. You can continue to build on it afterwards and add in anything you wish Spotify had in their UX! I know there's a handful of things I'd love to have in my Spotify app that I don't have right now!
