React Native For The Masses

Details

After a long and cozy Winter hibernation, we're back with another exciting session!

This time, and per people's request, we will be focusing on making React Native accessible for the masses.

Starting off with a live coding session to demonstrate how ridiculously easy it is to build a cross-platform chat app with RN and Firebase. Next, we’ll have a short overview and best practices for creating a great UI with Flexbox. Finally, we’ve gathered a lineup of RN experts, coming from various backgrounds, for a Q&A panel. This panel is your opportunity to learn about their insights and experience with RN, and also ask any questions.

As always, food, drinks, stickers and good vibes are included.

See you there!

AGENDA

6:30PM - 7:00PM // Arrivals & Introductions

7:00PM - 7:30PM // Building Slack in 30 minutes with React Native and Firebase // Yedidya Kennard (Wix)

Firebase enables developers to quickly develop apps without having to spin up servers or manage infrastructure. At Google I/O 2016, Google held a live coding demonstration showing how three developers could make apps for iOS, Android and the web based with a single Firebase backend. In this live demo, we’ll show how React-Native improves on this, by allowing a single developer to simultaneously develop native apps for both iOS and Android, with a completely native look and feel.

7:30PM - 7:45PM // Thinking in Flexbox // Yoni Weisbrod (Ivy)

In this lightning talk, I will recreate user interfaces from two popular React Native apps, explaining how I approach and implement some common UI design patterns with React Native Flexbox.

7:45PM - 8:15PM // React Native Experts Panel

This panel will discuss the adoption of React Native in various companies and products, with experts coming from iOS, Android and web development background.
