What we’re about
This is a book club with a unique format. As the name suggests, there is not an assigned book. You can read whatever you want and then show up to talk about it. Did you read five books this month and want to recommend them to people? That's great. Read a great magazine article or essay you'd like to discuss? Didn't have time to read anything, but would love to show up and get recommendations? That's great too. If you have a passion for reading and love to share, this group is for you.
This group is designed to remove the typical book club barriers: maybe you didn't have any interest in the selection for the month, maybe you couldn't find the book in time, or you had time to read but engrossed in something else and didn't finish assigned the book. Sometimes it feels like an assignment you're not interested in. This book club is the antidote to all that.
Our meetings will be relatively small, 10-12 people. Each person will have a chance to talk about what they've been reading, and then we'll have open discussion toward the end. I'm looking for public meeting spaces that can accommodate us, but we will also have outdoor meetings in public parks when the weather is nice.

We will be meeting at Birdhouse Books & Gifts at 5925 Burnet Rd. Birdhouse is a new bookstore that opened last year and we'd love to show them some support.
Like the name says, there is no assigned book for this book club. Just show up talk about whatever you've been reading...novels, short stories, poems, magazine articles... maybe you just want to show up and get recommendations and connect with other readers.
There is a limit of 12 people for this event, but the number usually ends up being 8-10. There is a wait list if it gets full, and a few spots always open up in the last 48 hours, so don’t despair if you didn’t grab a spot.
Everyone will have a chance to talk about what they've been reading and there is usually time left over for general conversation.Birdhouse has a great community space in the back of the store with plenty of seating for book clubs. Looks for a sign with the group's logo. You can find out more about Birdhouse Books & Gifts here: https://www.birdhousebooksatx.com/
