Join us this June as we read Alice Winn’s stunning debut, In Memoriam—a sweeping, intimate novel of love, war, and the fragile beauty of youth. Set against the backdrop of World War I, the story follows two schoolboys, Henry Gaunt and Sidney Ellwood, whose deep and unspoken love is tested as they are swept from the safety of their boarding school into the brutal realities of war. Through their journey, Winn explores the tension between who we are and who the world expects us to be, especially in times of crisis.

At its heart, In Memoriam is both a tender love story and a devastating portrayal of war’s impact on identity, friendship, and the transition from innocence to experience. The novel asks what it means to hold onto love in a world that seeks to silence it—and how we carry connection, grief, and memory through even the darkest moments.

In honor of Pride Month, this discussion offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on queer love, belonging, and the courage it takes to live truthfully—then and now.

We’ll meet in the non-fiction room of the shop — doors open at 10 am, and we’ll begin our discussion at 10:10.

If the event is full, please still come! We usually have less people than the limit - if you are on the waitlist, then come on!

Feel free to bring a coffee and a snack to share — we always welcome good conversation and good company around the table.
