Henry James (1843-1916) was an American-British author of twenty major novels of European and American life. He also wrote shorter works and The Turn of the Screw (1898) is one of his most famous ghost stories. It is a novella about a governess, isolated in a country house (Bly Manor, which is managed by Mrs Grose), who becomes convinced that her charges, Flora and Miles (whose guardian is absent) are being malignly influenced by the ghosts of two dead employees, Miss Jessel and Peter Quint. It is a work where everything is uncertain.
At this meeting we will focus on the prologue and chapters seven, eleven, sixteen, twenty and tweny-four. The chapters are all very short, should you wish to read them. You can find the text here: https://americanliterature.com/author/henry-james/book/the-turn-of-the-screw
