About us
Welcome to the Reading Asian Bites Society, a small, curated group for curious, friendly food lovers who want to explore the best of Asian food in and around Reading.
This isn’t a generic “let’s grab dinner” group. It’s for people who get genuinely excited about things like Japanese izakaya‑style plates, ramen, katsu, Korean‑style fried chicken (Taiwanese fried chicken will find its way in here somehow), dumplings, bao, and a great bowl of noodles. It's meant to explore the kind of East‑leaning Asian food you can actually find in Reading. If you enjoy talking about food, travel, and East Asian culture as much as eating, you’ll probably fit right in. This may (and likely will) expand to South Asian food in time.
The plan will be to meet roughly once a month at a different Asian spot in central Reading. The plan for the first few months includes places like pan‑Asian small‑plates and cocktail bars, Japanese‑focused restaurants (sushi, ramen, katsu), Chinese and noodle‑forward places, and casual spots doing bao, gyoza, and other East‑inspired dishes – with venues chosen and announced in advance so you always know what’s coming.
Events are kept intentionally small (around 6–10 people) so conversation flows and everyone gets to talk. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming: curious, open‑minded, and respectful. We often order a mix of dishes for the table where it makes sense, and there’s a strong expectation that people are up for trying at least a few things they might not usually pick.
Who this group is for:
– You love food and are especially interested in Asian cuisines (both classics and new discoveries).
– You’re happy meeting new people and contributing to the conversation.
– You respect RSVPs: if you say you’re coming, you turn up or give plenty of notice.
Who this group is not for:
– People looking for a generic social/drinking/dating group.
– People who are very picky eaters and not open to trying new dishes.
– People who regularly no‑show or cancel last minute.
Everyone pays for their own food and drinks. We keep things simple: usually separate bills if the restaurant allows, or a fair split when we share many dishes. There are no membership fees, just a shared interest in great food and good company.
This is a food‑focused social group, not a dating group. Members are expected to be respectful and inclusive; any pushy, creepy, or otherwise inappropriate behaviour towards others will not be tolerated, and I may remove people at my discretion to protect the group vibe.
If this sounds like you, apply to join and answer the membership questions thoughtfully so we can keep the group aligned and enjoyable for everyone.
