Deep Dive Session: Mapping the Afterlife: A Journey Through the Ten Realms

Details

Have you ever wondered about life after life?

  1. Have you questioned whether there’s another destination after this human journey?
  2. Do you sense that this life is not the end—but a stop along the way?
  3. Does having the knowledge of a "next stop" change the way you live today?
  4. Do you know where you might go next?
  5. And most importantly—are you prepared?

These questions have been at the heart of spiritual inquiry for centuries. In Buddha’s teachings, the answers lie in the framework of the Ten Realms, a profound map of existence that outlines the possibilities of our soul's journey—both in this life and beyond.

In Journey to the West, these teachings are brought vividly to life through stories infused with the sages’ teachings of Confucius, Laozi, and the Buddha. The souls of emperors, gods, demons, and monks move between realms under the universal law of cause and effect.

In our first 30 sessions, we’ve encountered many characters—Sun Wukong, the Jade Emperor, Guanyin, the Dragon King, the kings of Yama, and the Buddha himself. But where do they belong within the Ten Realms—and why?

Session Focus:
We’ll revisit key episodes from Chapters 1–12 of Journey to the West and explore profound questions about life, death, and what might come after. This is more than a reading—it’s a reflection on our journey as human beings.

We live in an age of soul awakening. A truly awakened soul recognizes the value of the knowledge of soul and impermanence of life—and seeks to live with vitality, consciousness, compassion, and purpose.

Key Questions for discussion:

Q1. What are the Ten Realms, and how are they categorized?

Q2: What are the qualities of each realm?
Which characters from Journey to the West represent each realm?

Q3. Are the Ten Realms just symbolic—or do we experience them in daily life?
Can you give real-life examples that reflect these realms?

Q4. What is reincarnation, according to your understanding?
Does it only happen after death—or even within one lifetime?

Q5. How is death portrayed in Journey to the West?
Which scenes or characters have given you insight into the nature of death?

Q6. What do we need to understand to avoid falling into the three lower realms?
Are there specific episodes that offer lessons?

Q7. What practices help us remain in the three upper realms, and rise further?

Q8. What is the fundamental difference between the Six Realms of Reincarnation and the Four Holy Realms?

Q9. What is the relationship between the Buddha and the Bodhisattva Guanyin?

Q10. What is your biggest takeaway from today’s Deep Dive—and how does it relate to your life right now?

Take time to ponder these questions. Bring your reflections, questions, and insights to the session. Let’s explore together what it means to be alive—and where we go from here.
