18:45 - 19:35 - John Q. Martin (In Person Speaker) - An Introduction to Amazon Redshift cloud data warehouse
Large-scale data analytics has traditionally meant integrating multiple technologies to deliver results. Amazon Redshift changes this by providing a Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) engine which spans your data lake, relational, and non-relational stores. Providing the real-time operational analytics, allowing you to build insight-driven reports and dashboards and deliver analytics as a service to your users.
This talk will provide you with insight into just what Amazon Redshift is, how to load and query data effectively, and operate a cloud data warehouse to provide insight to your customers.
Audience: The intended audience for this session is someone who has basic knowledge of data warehousing and wants to learn more about how an MPP architecture can help when based on Amazon Redshift.
Speaker Bio: John is an experienced data platform professional having spent over a decade working with various data and cloud platform technologies, specialising in Microsoft SQL Server wherever it is deployed. In this time John has learned how to get the most out of these platforms as well as the key pitfalls that should be avoided.
19:35 - 19:45 - Bio Break
19:45 - 20:35 Barny Self (In-Person Speaker) - Delta Lakehouse with Databricks – The Modern Data Platform
With the adoption of cloud computing over the last decade there has been a migration away from the traditional Data Warehouse to the Data Lake. The Data Lakes soon became Data Swamps as data was just thrown into cloud storage and left to rot.
In more recent years Databricks and other companies have been inventing new technologies to tame these swamps and turn them into useful and reliable Delta Lakehouses.
In this session, Barny will walk introduce Databricks Delta and how to use recent advancements to efficiently build, process and query your dimensionally modelled data all from within Databricks.
Speaker Bio: With over a decade of experience both within the MSSQL BI Stack and more recently the Azure data platform, Barny has a proven track record of building highly scalable BI solutions ranging from small data marts to Enterprise scale Data Warehouses and Data Lakehouses.
