The Way of Initiation - Rudolf Steiner | Full Reading & Discussion

Details

Hi all,

Continuing on with our meandering into the mystic, we will be focusing this week on the occultist, esotericist, and anthroposophist Rudolf Steiner and his work The Way of Initiation, or How to Attain Knowledge of the Higher Worlds.

Ideally, this reading will allow us to continue the discussions started with our reading of Guénon's The Crisis of the Modern World as we move from the latter's vague roadmaps toward the rediscovery of tradition via intuition and pure intellect into the former's perhaps more prescriptive and practical pathways to some form of transcendence. Or whatever. I should add that attending the previous Guénon group is not a prerequisite for this reading - I'm sure we'll all be eager to catch anyone up on our agreements or resentments with his work as it relates to Steiner's.

I will be reading Max Gysi's translation that is available here in Bezosville.
Here is a digital link to the text of the same translation (I think).
As always, if you'd like a physical book but are unable to procure one currently, I'm happy to provide one - just reach out and I'll have it shipped to you.

The printed copy is only 70 pages so for this meeting, we will be tackling the text in its entirety. As always, if you're unable to complete the book prior to our meeting, no worries - we're just happy to have you and welcome whatever insights, critiques, questions, etc. you may have.

We will be meeting in the Ace Hotel lobby on W 29th. It's cozy, there are couches, there is lunch, there is wine (thank god) and there is a Stumptown Coffee in the front. It's great. Message me the day of if you can't find us. I usually sit toward the back next to the bar.

Lastly, I've never read Steiner so given that this is a step into the unknown for me, all are welcome despite your familiarity with his work, esotericism, or philosophy in general. I'll likely be updating this page with introductory videos, podcasts, etc. to get us in the headspace of Steiner in the meantime.

So looking forward to it! I've really loved the discussions we've had thus far and can't wait to continue down this wackadoo path with you all.

Best,
Hamp
