Kafka's The Castle (part 1 of 2)

Let's meet to discuss Franz Kafka's final novel about a village's mysterious and absurd bureaucracy.

The book was unfinished and published after Kafka's death, so several versions exist with different chapter structures. Feel free to use read any (you can find some for free online) but prior to this meeting you'll want to read about the first half of whichever you choose—even though each will likely be at a different point in the novel. I'm reading the "definitive edition" translated by Willa and Edwin Muir.
