My friends,

As a test-run spin-off to our wildly successful Nietzsche at Night series that has been the talk-of-the-town for months on end, I introduce to you now: Baudrillard at Brunch.

I know what you're thinking - how did he conceptualize such a thing? Was the alliteration the primary concern and the text assigned as a mere afterthought? Yes.

For this inaugural event, we're going to be reading and discussing Baudrillard's 1994 work, The Illusion of the End, in its entirety. Coming from a half-year invested in Spengler's (join us!) philosophy of history, Baudrillard's unique critique of Western myths of progress and linear development seemed to be a great supplemental aside to affirm my presuppositions and start digging into a premier PoMo philosopher whose books have been doomed to dust-collecting on my shelves since purchase.

Here is the text on Amazon. Every dollar spent goes to getting Katy Perry back in space.
Here is a PDF for free download. Read before downloading: Don't click the big green "Download File" button. Click the >> button above the PDF preview and you'll see an option to download the text. If you're confused or if it's not working, message me and I'll email it to you.

This is a new format for this group and, as such, will be open to a smaller number of folks interested in reading the text in its entirety and eating good food. For now, I've marked our location as K'Far in Williamsburg but, since they don't accept reservations this far in advance, this will be subject to change. This said, the event will be held somewhere in North Brooklyn so if anyone has any recommendations that they're passionate about, let me know. All attendees are responsible for their own checks.

As always, this group is open to newcomers to Baudrillard, novices of philosophy, history, aesthetics, etc., ragamuffins, ne'er-do-wells, urchins of all sorts, etc. All insights are encouraged, just be somewhat sensible and all the way cool. Ain't no fun to be found in nodding your head along with a thinker for a hundred pages - strive to disagree, with decency.

Alright, looking forward to testing this out - reach out to me with any questions or concerns in the meantime.

Thanks,
Hampton
