Oedipus Rex by Sophocles

Oedipus Rex, written by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, is a timeless classic of tragedy and one of the most well-known works of Western literature. It tells the story of Oedipus, King of Thebes, who unknowingly murders his father and marries his mother, fulfilling a prophecy that he had desperately attempted to avoid. The story is one of fate and its unavoidable power, as Oedipus’s life is predetermined despite his efforts to change it.

Whole play (about 90 pages)

*We will be reading all 3 plays in the Thebian Trilogy by Sophocles, however each play can be be read and understood without reading the others.

Week 1 Saturday 10/3 @2:30pm -Oedipus Rex
Week 2 Saturday 10/10 @2:30pm -Oedipus at Colonus
Week 3 Saturday 10/17 @2:30pm -Antigone
