In this meeting we'll have Jeroen Ooms talk about developing web applications with R. Jeroen is a visiting scholar from the Netherlands at UCLA Dept. of Statistics. He obtained his MS in Statistics last year from Utrecht University, and he has used R extensively in developing web applications.

Here is the agenda as Jeroen says:

“Web applications are becoming increasingly important in offering software solutions to users. The main advantage above traditional desktop software is that new or improved applications can easily be made available to a wide audience. Furthermore, web applications are by design server-based, and therefore make more efficient use of resources, and are also easier to maintain.

In this presentation I will show how to create an R-based web application, more specifically a graphical web interface for an R function or package. To create such an application, we use R on the server side, and Javascript on the client side. No other programming languages are required, but of course it is possible to add php, mysql, etc. For the end-user, only a standard web browser is required. The presentation will include a simple demonstration of how to create such an application, as well as some theory about the underlying ideas and concepts.”

Some examples of Jeroen's work (with demos and instructional videos) can be found on his web site: https://www.stat.ucla.... (https://www.stat.ucla.edu/~jeroen/).

Please RSVP as places are limited.

Venue as usual: UCLA Boelter Hall Room 9413 (the lab), starting time: 7:00 pm (also please note the meeting is on a Wednesday rather than the usual Thursday).

Important message for first comers: Please consult the detailed venue information given at the first meeting as many people had difficulties finding the place the first time they came: https://www.meetup.com... (https://www.meetup.com/LAarea-R-usergroup/calendar/10154603/)
