One of our favorite meetings has always been Horror Story Night.
It is a chance to tell the story of the nightmares you have encountered during the course of your investing. We all have them. We deal with properties, tenants, contractors, government and more, so we should expect it. But sometimes things exceed out expectations. That is where the nightmares come in.
Time to share and compare. Real estate investing is not all moonlight and roses. Occasionally the roses have thorns. There are good things to come from the nightmares if we look for the lessons and learn them.
Fortunately, if you keep at it, real estate can be a wonderful way to achieve financial independence and to live life on your own terms. If we have appropriate reserves, insurance and asset protection we can usually handle the disasters financially, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still a nightmare.
Collect up your stories – tenants gone bad, unexpected property problems, contractors, buyer or seller nightmares, and other. You will have up to 5 minutes to share what happened and what would you do differently to avoid this nightmare.
And the good… We want to top the year off with some great stories with great endings as well! While you are looking through your files for horror stories to share, look for some of your best deals as well.
At our December meeting we would like you to bring your Deal of the Decade story to share. What went right? What lessons did you learn? Is it repeatable?
