Ride to Dead Man's Point

Details

Hey Dudes and Dudettes: This is a ride I'm leading with my Indian group but you guys are welcome to come if you're into it! Haven't seen you guys in awhile... We should plan something soon! Come to this for some fun though if you're interested!

Join us on a ride back in time to "Punta De Los Muertos", or "Dead Man's Point".
The year is 1782 when San Diego Bay was being surveyed & charted by Don Juan Pantoja y Arriaga, pilot, and Don José Tovar, mate, of the royal frigates “La Princesa” and “La Favorita” under command of Don Agustin de Echeverria of the Royal Spanish fleet. When these ships arrived in San Diego Bay, they carried four sailors already dead from scurvy, after the long voyage around Cape Horn. While surveying the bay, several other sailors died and were buried with the original four on a spit of land named "Punta De Los Muertos".
We will visit this little known site on the San Diego waterfront, as well as a section of the historic San Diego jail! If you care to join the group for lunch, we will be eating at Kansas City BBQ, a restaurant made famous in the original Top Gun Movie! A Paramount Studios location Director stopped in to have a beer while they were filming Tom Cruise's scene riding his motorcycle along the Embarcadero (see how I tied motorcycles in there?). The location Director liked the place and brought it to the attention of Director Tony Scott. The owners almost balked at shutting the restaurant down for the day for filming of the bar scenes, but they went for it and the rest is history! The BBQ is good too!
The Ride: We will meet at the Dealership for a meeting and safety briefing at 0900. KSU when those are finished so be there at 9 with a full tank! We will ride out to the coast, run down the 101 including the Strand at Oceanside, and down to Solana Beach where we will get on the 5. We will take the 5 to Downtown San Diego and park at Seaport Village. This will be pay parking so be prepared. The point, the Jail, and KC BBQ are all close by (walking disctance) from the parking lot.
The ride will end when we arrive at the point, but I will be happy to lead anyone back up the I-15 to North County after lunch and looking around.
***Note: This ride is on JUNE 18th! (NOT THE 4th SATURDAY IN JUNE!)***
Hope you can join us, it's going to be a good one!
