In the book, No More Mr. Nice Guy, Dr. Robert Glover talks about how recovering “Nice Guys” need to learn to be more selfish. Contrary to our social conditioning, that's actually a good thing!
Too often, men suffering from the Nice Guy Syndrome focus only on other people, in hopes that by doing so their needs will somehow magically get taken care of in return. Needless to say, it rarely works out that way.
At this meeting, we will talk about how trying to appear needless and desireless, using "covert contracts", and caretaking actually makes it more difficult for Nice Guys to allow others to give to them and get their needs met. We'll also discuss practical ways to change these beliefs in order to put an end to submissive behaviors, and take responsibility for our own happiness (and how putting ourselves first actually makes us more healthy and attractive!
