Religion and politics have often been a tremendous source of tension for Nice Guys. Many Nice Guys give these institutions a great deal of influence over their thinking, sometimes allowing them to shaping their entire lives around these systems regardless of whether or not they really believe them (or not).

Often times, Nice Guys embrace a political or religious beliefs wholeheartedly—or reject them outright—not because they have examined what they truly believe, but because taking that position can bring approval and validation from others or help them avoid rejection and disapproval from others they want to love them.

Politics and religion can become a way to cover feelings of inadequacy and toxic shame rather than an expression of their true feelings and values.

At this meeting, we’ll discuss how real men engage with politics and religion as tools for discovering themselves, rather than as ways to hide from themselves.
