Can we be deeply close to someone and still desire them?
On 9 September, Eros Reading Circle returns to ATMA with selected chapters from Esther Perel’s Mating in Captivity.

This is not a book club where we analyse whether we agree with the author.
The reading gives us somewhere to begin.

We’ll use Perel’s ideas and stories from couples she has worked with to open a conversation around love and desire, closeness and distance, autonomy, intimacy and erotic energy.
What happens to desire when two people become very familiar with one another?
Is time apart experienced as freedom — or abandonment?
Is what makes you feel loved also what makes you feel desired?

We’ll begin with tea and a short grounding, then share reflections from the reading before moving into an open conversation.

At the beginning of the evening, we’ll establish group agreements around respect and confidentiality. You never have to disclose more than you want to.
The 22-page reading will be sent to registered participants by email a few days before the gathering.
People of all genders and ages are welcome. You can come single or with a partner.
