What happens when one dinner brings everything a couple has learned not to say into the room?

Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. They invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbours for dinner, and what begins as an ordinary evening gradually moves into far less familiar territory.

The neighbours seem to possess something Joe and Angela have lost: playfulness, openness and a more adventurous relationship with $ex and desire.
But another couple’s freedom can be both attractive and threatening.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, The Invite is a sharp, intimate comedy about marriage, resentment, attraction and the stories couples tell themselves about other people’s relationships.

It is funny, uncomfortable and recognisable. Four people sit around one table, drink, provoke one another and begin saying things that may have been waiting a long time to be spoken.

After the film, we will stay for tea and an open conversation.
What happens to desire inside a long relationship?
Can another couple open a new possibility—or simply expose what is already missing?
How honest do we actually want our partners to be?
And when we imagine a freer relationship, do we want the reality or only the fantasy?
This is not a formal film analysis. We will speak about what caught our attention, what made us laugh or resist, and what the film brought into the room.
You are equally welcome to speak, listen or take time before entering the conversation. You can come alone.
