REASON - Thomas Paine Day!
Details
Over Summer, Trump celebrated the 250th anniversary of the US Army, and what seemed like his own 250th year of ruling The Nation.
THIS Summer, Americans will celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence, but we missed celebrating the 250th anniversary of perhaps a more important document for our democracy. We should have celebrated the publication of Thomas Paine's pamphlet, "Common Sense", on January 10th. Scholars contend that Paine's pamphlet formed the impetus of The American Revolution, along with the follow-up 13 pamphlet "American Crisis" series.
It's too late now for that, but the good news is that the first Saturday of February this year falls on a date that is as close as possible to Thomas Paine's birthday, given as February 9, 1737. Henceforth, within REASON, the first Saturday in February shall be Thomas Paine Day!
May there be a joyous celebration and a spirited discussion! (after up to 50 minutes of appropriately chosen videos)!
Differing viewpoints are welcomed in the discussion periods. We expect that discussions can be spirited, bear in mind that this is hosted within a public library.

Masking is not currently required to attend, but may be advisable for immune-compromised or unvaxxed people. Covid-19 levels in the state moved downward for the last week in January with Douglas County less afflicted than some other counties in central SE Nebraska.
The Sarpy County area had the most cases of influenza A in the state. This is perhaps 114 cases per 100,000 people, or 0.11%. Douglas County is much healthier, but is surrounded by counties reporting RSV also.
