iRecSys24 - Talks by Israeli researchers accepted to RecSys24 conference

RecSys is a leading international annual conference in the field of recommender systems. This year RecSys24 will take place in Bari, Italy in the middle of October. There are a few Israeli researchers whose works were accepted and will be presented there. We follow the tradition started last year and give them a stage to present the research to the local community before their trip to the main conference.

We are grateful to eBay and Taboola for their community sponsorship and ZipRecruiter for hosting this event.

Talks are in English.

Agenda:
17:30 - 18:00 Registration, Mingling, Snacks & Drinks
18:00 - 18:15 Host words - Intro to RecSys in ZipRecruiter (Nadav Barkai)
18:15 - 18:45 Papers from Recommenders in Tourism Workshop (Amit Livne, Carlos Herrero, Adva Hadrian)
18:45 - 19:15 Low Rank Field-Weighted Factorization Machines for Low Latency Item Recommendation (Alex Shtoff)
19:15 - 19:45 Temporal Reasoning in Recommender Systems (Adir Solomon)

Speakers:

Carlos Herrero: Machine Learning Scientist at Booking.com, working on optimization and personalization of promotional campaigns using causality and uplift modeling methods. Last year Carlos focuses on optimizing promotions for cross-sell campaigns at booking. He holds a Bachelor of Physics from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, a Masters in computing Science from the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid and a PhD in Physics at the University of Göttingen. Prior to Booking Carlos worked 4 years on cybersecurity and bot detection in Unbotify and Adjust.

Adva Hadrian: Machine Learning Scientist at Booking.com , specializing in ranking and recommendation systems. She holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s in Software and Information Systems Engineering from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). During her Master’s, she worked at CBG - Cyber@BGU, where she developed a multi-class machine learning solution for road type classification using sensor data.

Alex Shtoff: Research scientist at Yahoo for the last 5.5 years, working mainly on ad recommendation, but also on search query reformulation. He completed his Ph.D in continuous optimization at the Technion, under the supervision of prof. Amir Beck. Before his Ph.D, Alex has been a software engineer for 10 years, and holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in computer science.

Adir Solomon: Assistant Professor at the Department of Information Systems at the University of Haifa. His academic background includes a BSc, MSc, and Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at KU Leuven. His research focuses on machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and natural language processing, with applications in user modeling and recommender systems.
