Pine Valley Peak View Ramble

Details
Rating:
Less than 3 miles total and 600 feet of climbing. Easy to moderate but somewhat strenuous on the main climb up the shoulder of the peak where it's solid rock with safe grippy footing. However, it is mostly flat walking going and coming.
----
Zion backcountry limit: 12 hikers. Because this group is sharing with Mindful Scramblers on this hike, we've split the 12 hiker Zion limit into 6 for each group.
Hosted by John Gallant and Meredith Bowman. We'll take time to enjoy the rising sun and enchanting Zion landscapes in the morning light and coolness of the higher altitudes, 7,000ft, in West Zion starting from Wildcat Trailhead soon after dawn.

Are you sick and tired of the heat already? Come explore with us! Luxuriate in the early morning chill at 7000 feet while taking in the wide high views from Pine Valley Peak in West Zion. Bring a sweater!

This is a great shortish hike, very good for strong beginners. Less than 3 miles total, under 600 feet of climbing, Slopes that are not too steep and scary but still somewhat challenging, and excellent views, especially around sunrise.
That said, the main climb partway up the peak is fairly steep, so you will need some leg strength to do it right.
----
First, it's easy and downhill, then we go across a little woodland and finally steeply up onto a beautiful white sandstone shoulder jetting out from Pine Valley Peak. After we're done looking at the view we'll come back down and explore some nearby red sandstone hoodoos, and possibly go over to an old sawmill site in the area.
Returning from the hike, there is a 200 foot climb near the end, but it's not too steep, and it'll be good for training!
----
Bring plenty of water with electrolytes and energy snacks. Hat, poles, protective desert garb with light layers, and grippy, flexible hiking shoes, and camera.
See you there! M+J :)
