Auditing SQL Server: Extended events vs SQL Server Audit - Josephine Bush

You can audit SQL Server for free by using built-in features such as Extended Events and SQL Server Audit. You don't need to pay for expensive tools to find out what's changing on your server. Are you tired of people blaming database changes for issues they are having? If so, you need to audit and this session will help you! With this session, you will get an overview; the pros and cons; and some use cases for each. By auditing, you can track changes, report on usage to auditors, change user permissions or passwords without breaking functionality, and/or understand your workload to migrate parts or all of your database to the cloud or other database technologies. You will learn how to set up and query extended events and SQL Server Audit on SQL Server. You will also learn how to audit Azure SQL and Azure SQL Managed Instance. Additionally, you will get tips on how to centralize your audit data for easy reporting.

Speaker:
Josephine Bush has over 10 years of experience as a Database Administrator. Her experience is extensive and broad-based, including in financial, business, and energy data systems using SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL. She is a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Data Management and Analytics. She holds a BS in Information Technology, an MBA in IT Management, and an MS in Data Analytics.
