In-person & Zoom: The Wild Parrots of South Bay (LA) * Rescue, Rehab & Release

Details
Please attend in person in Hermosa Beach, CA. Otherwise, join us on Zoom -- come back here just before the meeting to get the zoom link.
Local veterinarian, Dr. Teresa Micco, will discuss her experiences in rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing wild parrots found injured in the South Bay and the surrounding Los Angeles Area. Rescued parrots may have injuries and other various health considerations that need to addressed for their recovery, before they can be released back into the wild.
Dr. Micco has spent hours, with the assistance of others who initially found injured birds in the wild, treating them and then returning them to the area from which they were found, to help them rejoin their flocks. In some cases when the parrot’s injuries creates their inability to survive in the wild, they may have to spend their remaining years in the protection of a sanctuary. In addition to treating numerous wild adult parrots, other songbirds and baby birds, Dr. Micco rehabilitates over 200 hummingbirds each year under the license of South Bay Wildlife Rehab.
Dr. Micco received her DVM in 2011 from Ross University and Louisiana State University Schools of Veterinary Medicine, located on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. She finished her clinical year at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While completing her clinical rotations, she assisted in the care of injured birds and sea turtles during the BP oil spill. Dr. Micco is an active member of the AAV (Association of Avian Veterinarians). She currently maintains her animal practice at Point Vicente Animal Hospital, in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Prior to attending veterinary school, Teresa Micco was a RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) for 25 years, working primarily with birds and exotics, in addition to dogs and cats. She became known as the “go to” person to help rehab wild parrots. Her instincts and skills allowed many parrots throughout the years the opportunity to be released back to their flocks.
You won’t want to miss hearing Dr. Micco’s experiences in helping our wild parrots heal.
