Reflections, Wednesday, Jan 7th
Details
This gathering is for those seeking meaningful connection and a sense of community—without any religious or spiritual affiliation. Together, we take time to pause, reflect, and share.
We begin with a reading followed by a silent meditation. We will then open it up to sharing where you are invited to reflect on the reading or speak about whatever thoughts, experiences, or challenges that have come up for you. (No obligation to speak.)
This is a time to listen to our own inner voice and to one another—without commenting on others' shares and without offering advice. Our intention is to hold space where you can express yourself authentically, be received with compassion, and trust that what you say will not be repeated. What is said here, what is shared here, stays here.
Conducted in English (but open to sharings in Spanish).
To help with the cost of the space, we welcome donations of 4-5 €.
Please do not hesitate to contact Galia or Elizabeth with any questions.
A preview of this month's reading:
The very meaninglessness of life forces us to create our own meaning.
Children, of course, begin life with an untarnished sense of wonder, a capacity to experience total joy of something as simple as the greenness of a leaf; but as the child grows older, the awareness of death and decay begins to erode idealism. As a child matures and see death and pain everywhere, he or she begins to lose faith in the ultimate goodness of humankind. But if reasonably strong – and lucky – we can recover from this state of doubt and find a renewed, energetic enthusiasm for living. We may not recapture the same pure sense of wonder that we were born with, but we can shape something far more enduring and sustaining.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent; but if we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death, our existence can have genuine meaning and fulfillment.
However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.
― adapted from Stanley Kubrick, 1968
