Popular knowledge of traditional architecture tends towards grand palaces, impressive religious buildings, or quaint market halls.

Vernacular buildings, in contrast, are the buildings of the working people. They are firmly situated in the landscape, built using local materials, and resistant to the changing norms of architecture on a national and international scale.

As the world becomes more connected, and building materials, techniques and fashions become more widely shared, we risk losing vernacular architecture and what it can tell us about the history of our communities.

In this talk Lewis aims to give a brief explanation of the vernacular architecture of Wales, and explain why Lewis believes that its study is essential to understanding our history."
