We’re excited to invite you to a rewarding service opportunity happening soon! Community High School needs our help to enhance the Interact Club's horticultural education program.

When and Where:

  • Date: Wednesday, May 7
  • Time: 4:00 to 6:00 pm
  • Location: 2901 Woodrow Ave, Richmond, VA 23222

What We’ll Be Doing:

  • Foundation Work: Help set a gravel base and place cinder blocks to support rainwater harvesting tanks. These tanks are a vital part of the school’s horticulture infrastructure.
  • Gardening Opportunity: Want to stretch those green thumbs? Join Kaya, our pollinator education intern, in creating mounds for a sister garden.

What Are the Three Sisters?
The three sisters (corn, beans, and squash) are grown together in Indigenous biointensive horticulture. Corn acts as a trellis for beans to climb, beans boost the soil with nitrogen, and squash provides ground cover to retain moisture. It’s a fascinating and sustainable planting method!

We hope to see you there and appreciate your support in strengthening the school’s horticulture program!
