Blush (online): A Semi-Erotic Writing Jam
Details
A writing jam is a low stakes, fun, and creative way to connect with yourself and others.
We get together and, following a simple structure, do some free write practices, responding to prompts, and then (optionally) read what we’ve written to each other.
A semi-erotic writing jam is one where some of the prompts will invite you to explore aspects of desire, turn on, sexuality, and the erotic.
This practice is great for writers, established or otherwise, and also people who have no experience or even aspiration to be writers. If you can write in some language, you can benefit!
For writers:
- Practice the fundamental act of connecting your experience, moment to moment, with language.
- More clarity of voice and content.
- More joy and excitement in your writing.
- More connection and community around writing.
For everyone
- It's a lot of fun. You’ll probably laugh.
- Connect with yourself and others in a structure where you don't have to make small talk, force vulnerability, or navigate boundaries.
- Writing is such a good thing to do even if you're not a writer, and it's so much easier with the support of a group.
Why include the erotic?
The erotic is normally excluded, out of a sense of propriety. “We don’t talk about these things in public.”
But eros is also a deep source of vitality, joy, and power. It’s the place where your raw, feeling body touches the rest of the world. You cannot live a rich, full life without developing your relationship with sex and the erotic, and you certainly can’t write well.
In a writing jam, you get to develop that relationship. You’ll share your stories, thoughts, and feelings, including as much or as little of the erotic as you’d like, and you’ll get to hear those things from others. The experience can be tender, beautiful, funny, sublime, and a lot of fun.
What if I don’t have any experience writing?
You are very welcome! The atmosphere will be relaxed, welcoming, and supportive. You’ll get all the instruction you need to participate.
What if I’m a seasoned writer with published books and prizes and shit?
You are also very welcome! The most advanced yogis still benefit from the occasional yoga class.
What if I’m shy, or don’t want to share what I’ve written?
You get to choose how much or little you participate. If a prompt is uncomfortable for you, you don’t have to work with it. If you write something and you don’t want to share it, we will be very cool about that
