Sunday Tahoe Meadows Snowshoe -- Seeing Through Grateful Eyes

How beautiful the snow, and how fortunate are we -- to experience such a winter of such historic intensity!

I know many of us, especially as the wheel of the year turns past the Spring Equinox, feel ready for the big melt to begin.

Yet the snow is still here, and still beautiful. And thus the theme of this snowshoe hike is "Seeing Through Grateful Eyes."

We'll journey together from the Tahoe Meadows South Trailhead to a viewpoint that overlooks Lake Tahoe.

One of my own favorite beginner-to-moderate level snowshoe hikes, this experience will be roughly 2-3 miles, with an elevation gain of 400 feet or so. Please note, this hike takes place at high altitude (above 8000 ft).

In order to honor everyone's schedule, please plan to arrive a little before 1pm, so that you are ready to start hiking by 1:05 pm.

In addition to snowshoeing basics*, dress in layers (be able to drop a coat when sweaty, and put it on when stopped/cold); and bring a backpack with water, a snack, sunscreen, and any other personal hiking essentials**.

As always, please remember to express gratitude FOR your eyes by bringing protective eyewear (sunglasses or goggles). The snow at this altitude on a sunny day can be literally blinding.

We'll stop along the trail to incorporate an exercise or two -- focusing on gratitude, vision, and expanding our capacity to appreciate what we see.

I suggest having something you are willing to sit on that insulates your body from the snow (for me, that's my backpack; could also be a small foam pad, or even a waterproof jacket). We won't be sitting long, but it can nice to rest our legs while gazing out at the lake.
