Kings Canyon Upper Waterfall Loop / Mother's Day Hike

Details

Discover this 4.4-mile loop trail near Carson City, Nevada. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 2 h 20 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are April through August. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

This route makes for a great linkup of several trails in the park and explores the upper and less-frequented waterfall in the area. There is no shade along the route and the trail is relatively steep, but the views are worth the effort. Travel along a forest road until reaching a wooden footbridge that leads to the top of the falls. Afterward, take the Ash to Kings Trail which leads through the forest until making its way back to the parking lot.
