Intro to Winter Camping Seminar

If you enjoy backpacking and camping but have never tried it in winter, our popular "Intro to Winter Camping" event will provide the knowledge, skills and some tried and true techniques to allow for an enjoyable and comfortable night in the winter wilderness. It’s the 3 “B’s” of camping, No Bugs, No Bears (usually) and No-Body else around! Whether a novice or experienced winter backcountry camper, this event offers something for everyone.

This introductory class has been well attended the past seven years and is an excellent primer for upcoming RTA overnight events. This season we are listing the seminar portion of the trip as a separate event. THE OVERNIGHT FIELD PORTION OF THIS CLASS WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY - SUNDAY, JAN. 3rd-4th.

This informal 2-hour seminar with Q&A time will be held at the Sierra Canyon Lodge in Somersett (1798 Del Webb Pkwy West, Reno, NV 89523) on THURSDAY DECEMBER 18th at 5:45pm. Please RSVP ASAP as class size is limited. In addition to handouts, bottled water and refreshments will be provided fireside.

Attending this seminar is strongly recommended if one hasn't winter camped before. Appropriate winter gear and clothing will be reviewed, what works and what doesn't, pre-trip planning, and guidance on safe winter back-country travel. Additionally, anyone needing to acquire items will have time prior to heading into the backcountry.
