Blizzard Trip
Details
Apologize for the super late notice but.............next weekend (Feb. 14th- 16th) has a potential incoming storm which now appears on track and is intensifying. Our last Blizzard Trip was a bit epic but fun in a perverse kinda way..........LOL
So, if you're interested, wish to gain EXPERIENCE and also have a flexible schedule..................this intense event will prepare you for just about anything in the winter backcountry.
FLEXIBILTY is the name of the game as for now we will plan on going in Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon, HOWEVER, depending on conditions this event may be pushed out to a Sunday / Monday time frame. Road access may also be problematic Saturday morning so we MUST be flexible with planning. Our main location is near Carson Pass with an alternate location in the Mt. Rose area with a short approach to a hidden spot. Please keep in mind that Monday the 16th is a holiday, if that helps.
Experiencing a major winter storm in the backcountry can be quite exhilarating or somewhat terrifying depending on one's perspective and experience. Seriously though, with proper site preparation and gear, it's not too bad. Also, it's a great experience if one is planning on future mountaineering trips to high elevation peaks or heading to Alaska for example.
We will try to exit on Sunday but be prepared for a delay if roads are closed. Recommend bringing additional food & fuel just in case.
Expect extreme conditions so a 4 or 3+ season tent and sleeping bag are necessary, along with a compact shovel and goggles as well. Both sites avoid avy danger and snowshoes or skis work for the approach. If in need, all items can be rented from Nevada Adventure Rentals in Reno. www.nevadaadventurerentals.com
