We begin this ride at 8:30am in Markleeville on the main street near the gas station (there is only one). This ride has multiple options.
The main object is to ride to lake Alpine, take a break at the lodge there and return. Ebbetts pass and Lake Alpine are scenic and there are other lakes along the way like the Kinney Reservoir and Mosquito Lake.

It is a reasonable choice to do the main and largest pass Ebbetts pass and return. This would be ~36 miles and 3600 feet of elevation gain.
Ebbetts pass has low traffic and is very scenic. The pass starts out easily for the first 11.8 miles, the last 6 average about 6.5% with variable grade.
The full ride to Alpine lake is a 65 miles and about 7600 feet of climbing. The 3 successor climbs are smaller than Ebbetts Pass by a substantial
margin. This ride is equivalent to doing about 3 passes of the 5 of the
death ride.
