Sonora Pass
Details
Sonora Pass is a hard pass. I would like to do both sides of the pass but in deference to others who might be insane enough to join me I propose to start with the East Side as it reduces the drive and it is totally reasonable to do only one side of the pass.
The starting point is a dirt parking spot 3.5 miles up Hwy 108 and
opposite side from the road to go to the Marine Base.
The East side is the easier side, the climbing is similar to doing Ebbetts Pass and the real part of the pass is 9.7 miles.
This pass is harder than Ebbetts pass but this is because the hardest parts of >10% grade last a full mile and there are two of them on each side. However the rest of the pass on the East side is very manageable.
