We've all followed scientific community discussion about the desirability of funding and publishing efforts to replicate research: but an important consideration is how hard it is in practice to verify or refute the research of noncooperating, fraudulent or sloppy scientists. What changes would incentivize discovery claimants getting their work right first time, rather than staking a fast claim and moving on in the knowledge that it will take several years for others to show they're wrong. Would such changes disincentivize risk-taking and innovation, or can you have both, i.e. grand vision, bold claims, and still handle data with integrity?
